Pre-reqs: 1lb beef steak, 1 sweet red pepper, baking soda, potato starch (corn starch, potato flour), dark soy sauce, salt, sugar, veg oil.

Pre-activities:

cut $little_finger into strips with size of the $beef_steak, ( export little_finger = beef steak; beef_steak = little finger )
well-mix steak strips with 1/5 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp potato starch, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp dark soy sauce, 1 tsp veg oil
cut the peppers in strip

Procedure:

heat the wok until 1 tsp veg oil in it smokes.
dump beef in, stir fry. After beef turns dark, continue for 2 minutes
put in pepper, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tsp sugar, stir for 2 minutes

Post-procedure:

off-load to a heated plate
enjoy before it gets cold

Last night, we went to watch Swan Lake, the classic ballet presented by Tchaikovsky Perm Ballet, one of Russia's most distinguished artistic establishments. It's hosted by Cal Performances, an organization which brings hundreds of the world's foremost performing artists to UC Berkeley. As a poor graduate student here, I just had to pay $10 dollars for ticket, and even luckily, got the seats in the 2nd row just right at front of the stage. It's so hard to describe how wonderful the two-and-half-hour performance is in words, so I was going to show some pictures, but ...unfortunately,.... camera was not allowed there....

This is a open question. I would like to invite everyone who read this post to share your thoughts. ( Well, I assume no many people will actually read my blog, but if you do, please give the inputs)

Although I am not an absolute atheist, but as almost all Chinese in my age, my education background roots on it.
So, I try to generalize the opinions about life for my generation. First of all, let's assume God doesn't exist, and the world is purely objective and as exactly explained by science.

So, what's the goal of the life and how should you go over it?

There are generally two answers in my generation.
1) Better yourself, set a goal, and go for it. Always strike and work toward your goal, better yourself throughout the life.
2) fulfill our desires, physiological levels and higher levels.

However, for the answers above, Can you tell me what's the next after you achieved your current goal and desire? Are you really satisfied after accomplishing that?
If bettering or desires are the means of life, what's the end?
If they are the end, then as you know, they will never be the end, because there are more to better and more desires to fulfill. And physically, the end of the life is death, no matter how much you had better yourself or fulfilled your desires, it's no difference when it comes to death. In other words, If they are the end, then they will never end, so why would you bother to start?

星期的说法是个有趣的事情
中国人说周一，周二，周三，周四。英语是Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday。可是日文却是金，木，水，火，土。
为什么日本人不用数字呢？一二三四五，像中国人一样，不是很方便？他们太笨了。
同样的，刚学英文的时候，觉得月份好烦啊，January, February, March, April, 他们干吗不用 first-month, second-month, thrid-month. 多省事。

长大了才渐渐发现，日本人比我们聪明啊。他们用金木水火土，就把自己的文化继承下去了，因为时间单位是最常用的，是真正深入每个人生活的东西，只有这种东西才是真正有活力的。而我们的子丑寅卯已经快成了黄土里的古董了，记得高中时候老师要我们背生肖表 --- 子鼠丑牛，那些曾经连农夫都知道的东西，如今成了书本里应付高考的知识，或是GG追MM时炫耀文化修养的道具。

这让我想到《1984》里的 Big Brother。他是一个超级大国的精神领袖，人们尊敬的称他为老大哥。他实现了一种理论上绝对完美的统治，一种对人民思想的完全统治。书中，Big Brother 搞文化改革。其中之一就是简化语言，比如说，要表达好与坏，那就只用Good 和 non-Good, 什么wonderful, amazing, pretty, terrible, 全部不要，全部简化。为什么呢？因为形容词简化了，人们就很难表达自己丰富的感情，你也无法表达不好的想法。举个例子，现在都是和谐社会了，假设你是个愤青，你对社会不爽，可是你有不能公开说，因为警察叔叔会找你麻烦，于是你非常隐晦的挤出了"一团和气的社会"，过了口瘾，又没有麻烦。可是如果把"和谐"有关的形容词全部简化了，你要么说"和谐社会"，要么说"不和谐社会"，你不能说"一团和气的社会"。而不和谐是不能说的，所以你只能说"和谐社会"。慢慢的，人民的感情也被简化了，也禁欲了，人民和曾经的文化也挥手说拜拜了。于是这个社会就实现终极和谐了。

这时候，有同学要问了，我是不能说啊，可是我还可以想啊。我知道发生过不和谐的事情，我我记得历史。那么，小朋友，请问历史是在你的脑子里呢？还是在证据里？如果这段历史没有了任何的证据，那它还存在吗？让我告诉你，你记错了，你看文件上都写了，历史不是你说的那样子的，你天天想着没发过的事，应该去看看心理医生了。

简体字，除四旧，最近剩下的是什么呢？和谐的社会。

写zai使用Reader一周年

今天和一个朋友聊到Google Reader, 才发现这一年来，我上网的主要活动基本都在Reader内完成了。这种行为，会是一个趋势。

以前，我们看新闻或者消息常去门户网站或者论坛。但我一直觉得那里的信息太杂乱无章，质量参差不齐。大约一年前，我开始用Reader，把平时看到的符合口味的blogs都收录进去，扩充整理。在Reader里信息的阅读效率非常高，你不需要为每条消息点开链接。而博客里的消息都是博主挑选后的好东东，它们可谓我的私房菜，从不上你不喜欢的菜，菜谱上只有口感和味道俱佳的美味。
打个比方，看博客的感觉好像是好友间的闲聊，而门户网站就好像是中央电视台的大广告和虚伪的节目主持人。哪种感觉更好，不言自明。

把这个趋势说的牛X一点，如果Internet使我们多了一个传播小道消息的渠道，门户网站让我们看到更多的花边新闻，论坛可以让多了一个地方38，那么，Reader+blogs就是八卦大爆炸。消息源再不会被垄断，也更富有人情味。更符合和谐社会的标准。(领导说：首先，大家不应该传播不"和谐"的消息，和谐从耳朵做起。)

如果浏览器是英特网的入口，那么Feed Reader就是blog阅读的门户。谁垄断了它，就占到先机。更不用说还可以分析出用户兴趣，为政府监视恐怖主义，为商家提供针对性广告，为心理学家提供研究数据，为骇客。。。。。

Google不傻呀。

王石真不该写这个自传。平时媒体软文偶尔报道一下，人家对他还蛮有好感的。他偏要自己写个文字作品，而且还是自传，贞洁牌坊的意图就完全暴露了。嗨，所以大家要报一个心态，商人和政治家都是流氓。这样做，我们纯洁的心灵被撕碎的次数才能最少。

学到两点：
－－事情不要做的太过，不然适得其反。
－－自传还是找别人写好。

吴淑珍涉案正式被诉，陈水扁决计毁党自保

11月3日，陈瑞仁检察官，一人掀起了台湾政坛的超级地震

。下午四点左右，台北地检署召开新闻发布会，宣布因国务机要费案正式起诉第一夫人吴淑珍、前任总统府秘书长马永成等四人涉嫌共同贪污，认定吴淑珍以他人付款消费的发票，连续诈领国务机要费1480多万新台币，而陈水扁涉嫌贪污和伪造文书，但因为总统职位保护，要等到卸任或者被罢免才能继续起诉。事实上，这等于向世人正式宣布，陈水扁涉嫌贪污，罪证确凿，静待未来的审判。

这是台湾岛内司法历史上侦办对象职位最高的案例，也是中国人司法历史上最有勇气的篇章。对吴淑珍等人的起诉书全文被各大媒体转载，对他们所犯的罪行、试图掩饰的经过、所做的伪证记载详细。陈瑞仁检察官表示，本身深绿的他，在办案的时候没有任何政党的考量，也没有受到任何政治压力，只是在和证据进行肉搏战，终于在当天凌晨完成。他相信，其证据是经得住外来庭审考验的。

台湾的检调制度，因为并不像岛内法院系统那么独立，检调最高行政长官都是总统任命，并且通过分案、升迁等权力从上到下传递了这种总统意志，因此凡是牵涉到总统府的案子，检查官不能独立办案是制度的常态，能独立办案的人却是非常态。陈瑞仁检察官不畏强权，不受舆论影响，做出了让蓝绿阵营都无话可说的起诉书。此案一成，之前结案的或还没有起诉的关于陈水扁家庭、家臣所有的案子都要翻案或按事实起诉。此案事实上就成为了台湾版"独立检察官"的先例，台岛的检调系统会一个结构性的良性改革，类似香港廉政公署的检调机构，也很可能成立。这是对岛内司法环境最卓越的贡献。

也正式因为如此政治中立、证据确凿的判决书的公布，全台掀起了新的政治风波。国民党在马英九主席和亲民党宋楚瑜主席会面之后，要求陈水扁48小时无条件下台，否则立刻提出罢免；另外还在周六日在台北和高雄发动大游行，如果不下台，以后每个周末都游行。台联也立刻表示，会完全支持国亲两党的罢免案。施明德立刻带领红衫军散步回到凯达格兰大道，群众向媒体表示，如果阿扁不下台，不撤离凯道。民进党方面，经过几个小时的高层会议，当晚召开新闻发布会，宣布送陈水扁交廉政会评处，给其向公众解释机会国务机要费内容，而要求对吴淑珍、马永成等四人人送交中评会，拟予以停权处分。只有新世代的民进党绿六祖，要求陈水扁立刻下台。未来的三天，将是台湾政治历史上和台美断交、319枪击案两件事件并列的三大宪政危机之一，阿扁如何选择，将在某种程度上决定台湾的命运。

民进党北高市长竞选团队宣布暂停一切活动。台北市长候选人谢长廷也明显表达了他因此事选情受牵连的遗憾，而高雄市长候选人陈菊，如何对陈水扁涉案一事发言，将直接决定她是否当选。其实，根本不需要他们发言，未来一个月，将没有人真正关心北高两市选情，所有的焦点都回到了陈水扁身上。如果不出特别的意外，郝龙斌一定当选，而陈菊是否当选，完全要看她是否能和陈水扁切割成功。

针对陈水扁个人来说，这是一个生死时刻。辞职对他来说，即便和吕秀莲做好了赦免交换协议，让其和妻子免罪，但一连串的审判和清算，将使其在台湾无法生存下去，319真相也会水落石出。因此，他很可能会继续抵抗到底。但此刻也是民进党的生死危机，陈水扁的命运不再完全掌握在他手里，党内领袖不可能完全为了阿扁让全党陷于万劫不复之态，激烈的政治斗争就此开始。

就当晚11点民进党游锡�掖�表全党对外发言的态度和内容来看，阿扁目前还没有完全失势，扁系很可能会在未来的解释和顽抗期间，制造更多的危机。前几天他刚刚接受外电采访，表示要冻结宪法，再造新宪。在如今陈水扁和民进党命运两选一的时候，凭着他的顽强性格，完全可能牺牲民进党、保全自己。这样惨烈的毁党悲剧，很可能会在未来几天里面上演。

uhh, so, what's my position over there?

There's a certain group of applicants whose grades and LSAT scores are so high that the presumption is that the applicants are going to be admitted unless they do something terribly stupid to keep themselves out. I have seen applicants whose personal statement has done that, but it's extremely rare. At the other extreme is another group of applicants who, no matter what they write, are not going to get in.

The applicant has to realize, first of all, where he or she stands. If you have a straight-A grade point average and a perfect LSAT score, you don't have to spend a lot of time worrying about your personal statement. On the other hand, if you know you're in the borderline area, that's where the personal statement becomes very, very important.

The applicant should take the time to read the application to see what the schools are asking for. Sometimes the school will ask for a general description of why you want to go to law school, or why they should admit you, something of that nature. In such case you can be fairly sure that the school is just interested in the essay to see how well you write. So what you say isn't as important as how you say it. On the other hand, some schools are more specific

Another mistake is that everyone tries to make himself or herself the perfect law school applicant who, of course, does not exist and is not nearly as interesting as a real human being.

The National Language movements carried out in Fuzhou by Kuomintang and CPC have been in fact based on the short-sighted principle that Mandarin Chinese and Fuzhou dialect are contradictory rather than complementary. For decades, the extreme language policy has greatly boosted the number of Mandarin Chinese speakers in Fuzhou, but has also led to the undesirable result that more and more children cannot speak their mother tongue fluently. Ironically, Fuzhou dialect is an endangered language in Fuzhou downtown areas. CPC has promised to take measures against its decline, but so far nothing concrete has been done.

终于，有闲暇来blog上bullshit一番了。
在Calgary已经一个月了。慢慢开始适应这里的环境。在公司还是干的还是比较舒服，只是办公室的空调太热，经常有穿毛衣睡觉的感觉。前周GF来这边看我，那几天立刻觉得气色大好。最近QIang的到来也让我有趣了许多。上周末，我第一次玩了snowboard，爽的不行不行。Calgary实在是个好地方，风景，城市都很棒。如果天气能好点，chinese restaurant能多点就更好了。唯一的遗憾，朋友都不在这里。
4年前来Canada，和家人，挚友分别千里，没有感到寂寞。那时的我就像一只风筝，只想飞的更高，更远。看到更大的世界。如今，只是去了另一个省，却更怀念起那些朋友。有点感悟到我的一个朋友在上海实习时的心情了。人就是在经历中成长的吧。老毛说过，梨子是什么味道，你要亲口尝一下才知道。
这几天在看一个平凡人的回忆录－阿唐的故事。很喜欢，他有很多经历，有的让我想起小时候。现在的我也是他故事中的年龄。以后我老的时候，会不会有足够的经历来写一个自己的回忆录呢？

在中国，肯德基的名字已是家喻户晓，妇孺皆知。每逢假日我走在大街上看到不少小朋友缠着他们的爸爸妈妈要去肯德基时，我从心底便涌起一阵悲哀，作为昔日肯德基的一名资深管理人员，我太清楚食用肯德基的食品会对身体带来什么。多少次我想说点什么，但每次都犹豫起来，那毕竟是与我朝夕相处6年的地方啊，它已经成为我生命中抹不去的一页，在那里我奉献了我人生最美丽的青春年华，所以我珍惜。但随着孩子一天天长大，三岁的幼童竟然也熟知肯德基，每每当我带着他去肯德基时，员工们总会挑选新鲜的半成品为我们现做，如果有哪种半成品过了保质期又没有新鲜的现货时，员工便告知我改天来吃。今天我已离开了肯德基，当我再度以普通顾客的身份带着孩子去肯德基时，我们能吃到健康安全的食品吗？这个城市里成千上万的孩子今天又去了肯德基吗？我不得不深思了，那是良知的召唤！
我是1998年12月1日从一家大型的国有商业企业跳槽进入肯德基的，当初作为肯德基的一名见习助理，生产程序和操作程序是一定要掌握的。肯德基有一整套完善的营运操作和管理系统，无论是新招募进的普通员工还是见习助理都必须进行工作站的系统培训，在培训中训练员始终强调的就是操作标准，唯有每个环节都按标准操作，才能保证顾客吃到健康安全的食品。操作标准涵盖了生产环节的方方面面，从原料的保质期，到半成品的腌制，裹粉烹炸到成品的制成和保鲜……如果哪一个环节出现纰漏势必影响整个食品制作的安全。可以这么说操作标准就是肯德基的生命。当我结束3个月的见习期后，作为助理的我开始值班。在值班中我开始按公司的标准去追踪员工，但当我真正按标准去工作时我感到并不是那样轻松。在肯德基实行的是店经理负责制，还有在资浅经理遇到工作障碍或作出大的决策时由楼面上最资深经理决断。我记得在 2000年3月的一天，我值晚班时发现有400个汉堡面包到期，我想废弃掉，但当时楼面上资深经理张燕阻止了我，叫我不要废弃，等第二天早班来了再说。我当时很惊诧，原来这样不标准的行为已经在某些管理组手上发生了。我有点困惑了。像我们平常在肯德基吃到的炸鸡块，汉堡包都是成品，顾客只能简单的判断食品的外观，但每一样成品都是由半成品加工而成，像我们通常吃的汉堡由汉堡面包，鸡腿肉，生菜，蛋黄酱组成。制成这些成品的半成品都有保质期。像前面提到过的汉堡面包保质期为0+4天[面包生产当日为0天，然后使用4天]。但在后来我发现有时汉堡面包可以使用7-8天。至于生菜等其他半成品过保质期就更加不废了。在我们餐厅有管理人员7-8人。当值班经理发现有到期的半成品后会向店经理反映，如果店经理没有明确答复废弃或干脆要你售卖，值班经理一般是不会废的。这也就是在餐厅里面普遍卖废的原因。
我手头有一份2002年2-3月的货物汇总表。从货物汇总表上可以清楚看到：汉堡面包2月27日到期8箱，实际卖到2月28日，3月1日到期20箱加73个，实际卖到3月3日，3月3日到期11箱，实际卖到3月4日。小餐包3月1日到期7箱加10个，实际卖到3月3日，3月3日到期5箱，实际卖到3月 6日。3.5寸汉堡面包3月1日到期41箱加13个，实际卖到3月3日，3月3日到期27箱，实际卖到3月6日。至于冷藏库内腌制好的鸡米花，按公司标准是2月26日到期的，实际卖到3月2日，卖废长达4天，最后烹炸出来是臭的才废掉。卖废弃产品一路走来似乎无多大障碍，大有愈演愈烈之势，且卖废手法更加高明。2004年8月5日到8日餐厅变压器烧毁，在此停电期间，汉堡类面包全存放在餐厅没有实现调出。8月11日我上早班发现有154个汉堡面包切面上已泛起绿霉点，经检查时间条分明是11日到期，我正考虑是否是供应商那边出了问题，正准备与品管部门联系此事，这时厨房员工李小康过来说这是7号到期的面包，旧时间条已撕掉换的新时间条，是他贴的。我问哪来的新时间条，他不愿再说。我当即打电话告之店经理熊非，他只说不能卖就废掉算了，不愿再多说什么。我打开电脑经查在8 至10号共卖出1000多个废弃的汉堡面包。2004年10月8日公司开始新的促销，其中套餐里面有一种田园脆鸡堡，平常田园脆鸡堡卖的并不好，一天才售卖30个，周六日也只卖150个左右。但此次促销改货经理张天与店经理熊非沟通后按千次300改货[即每千笔餐卖300个]。但促销开始后田园脆鸡堡卖的并不好，千次只有40左右，导致10月12号有600个田园汉堡面包到期。10月13日我上早班，有夜保李召华和任克强说准备去撕过期汉堡面包的时间条，经询问由夜保撕时间条已是常事，我当即加以制止，并耐心告之他们这样做的危害，然后要他们将过期面包放在产区后通道，等晚上收垃圾的带走。但第二天我上早班发现这600个汉堡面包并没废弃，并且还卖了不少，而前天晚班经理为店经理熊非。
在我们餐厅像上面提到的大批量卖废几乎每月都有1到2次，至于小数量不同品种的卖废几乎每天都有。这不禁让人要问，为什么有卖不完的货呢？其实仔细想想也很简单。像我们餐厅订货[如汉堡面包]通常是订未来5天的货量，在这5天中如果发生一些意外情况，如停电，气候恶劣，新产品促销不好等，就会造成产品积压。按公司标准有以下3种解决方法：1 提前调拨给就近的兄弟店 2 提前退回配销 3 到期废弃。但店经理往往为了降低损耗量，又不愿出调拨费用，就只有继续售卖。其目的是给公司交上一份漂亮的报表，进而使绩效评估顺利过关，拿到理想的奖金，所以对卖废不但不制止，还会暗中支持和操作。写到这里，圈外人难免会再生困惑，难道没有监督机制吗？当然有，像餐厅的主管是区经理，而有些区经理在做店经理时本身就卖过废弃产品，所以有时到餐厅也是睁一只眼闭一只眼，况且公司的品控部门和区经理也很少到餐厅，即便到餐厅也会得到消息，餐厅也早有防范，作过手脚，待他们离去一切又回归自然。至于政府部门，除了卫生防疫站每年有1-2次例行通知取样检查，其他部门是从不介入生产环节的。况且送样的都是最好的产品。在餐厅内部也不是没有坚持标准的管理人员，像本人和另一管理组曾在2002年9月向公司营运部反映过此问题，但公司也没有对当时的店经理张燕作出过什么处理，而接下来举报人面临的就是诸多不公的对待，甚至会因此失去工作。还有谁再会去逆店经理之意而行呢？
在餐厅内部卖废弃产品是最典型的不标准行为，既然卖废弃产品可以在餐厅内大行其道，那其他影响食品安全的不标准操作就更畅通无阻。像我们餐厅内部汽水机，热饮机，圣代机奶浆等用水按标准是要用经过4-5次过滤和消毒的过滤水，不同的过滤环节采用不同的进口滤芯。滤芯正常使用时其水压不低于25PSI，其使用寿命一般在3至6个月，但荆州水质差，往往新滤芯在使用1至2个月便出现堵塞，滤芯在冲洗之后效果还是不好，而更换新的价格又不菲，碰到周六日或节日餐厅内过滤水水压就会很低，热饮机不能正常工作，值班经理或店经理就会授意员工下掉F1，F3等滤芯使用。起初在高峰过后还会安上去，到后来索性不安了，只有公司高层巡店才会更换新的。这时顾客喝到的饮料，吃到的圣代其实就是自来水做的。在营运高峰时，现任店经理熊非往往自诩为小诸葛，为了准备足够的产品，他会叮嘱备货人员缩短鸡类产品的腌制时间，在烹炸产品时会提前出锅1至2分钟，至于员工在端盘上产品时不小心将整盘香辣鸡翅端翻了，而不是将落地的产品废弃，而是暗示员工将其捡起继续售卖。至于成品过保鲜期就更不会废了。在本人离开餐厅前不久，偶尔听到一件不可思议的事。2004年11月2日餐厅停电，按常理餐厅会有汉堡面包售卖不完，我当时叮嘱一员工如果有管理组要你撕时间条或卖废弃你不要去做，哪知他听后笑了，他说现在已经看不到卖废弃了，我问为什么？他说现在已有店经理信得过的管理组拿了打码机放在餐厅，如果有大量的汉堡面包到期，他们会在夜里撕去包装袋上的旧时间条打上新时间条后售卖，这下还会有谁说在卖废弃？这不禁使我想起为什么8月11日会出现那么多新时间条了。

Don't know if Google would beat down MSN. However, I desire more things from Blogger. A photo album, a list of link's to my friends' spaces, background music, more ways to organize my archive other than by month, a calendar and more. Even if there are some nice features, they are usually too complicated to use.
I think Google family all have this kinda problem. Their products can be very efficient as long as you know how to do it... but, it's hard to learn. So, they are the favor of technical freaks, but not for normal people.
And, You know what, the most suck thing of Blogger is that, it CAN'T be accessed from CHINA. What a damn.
